A Luxurious Wine & Culinary Journey Through Northern Italy

Italy has long been synonymous with rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and, of course, world-class wine and cuisine. This past October, we embarked on an unforgettable adventure through some of Italy’s most renowned wine regions. From hands-on culinary experiences to private vineyard tours, this meticulously curated itinerary immersed us in the very best that Northern Italy had to offer.

Day 1: Arrival & Authentic Cooking in Valpolicella

Our journey began in Verona, where we settled into the charming Boutique Hotel Touring and took a moment to soak in the energy of the city. Later that afternoon, we made our way into the heart of Valpolicella for a truly memorable experience at Fumanelli Winery, a historic family estate rooted in tradition. After wandering through the vineyards and cellars, we rolled up our sleeves for a hands-on cooking class, learning to make fresh pasta from scratch. The evening unfolded over a beautifully prepared dinner, thoughtfully paired with exceptional regional wines, including the iconic Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, setting the perfect tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Exploring the Valpolicella Wine Region & Lake Garda

Today, we embarked on a private wine tour through Valpolicella, visiting two standout wineries that beautifully showcased the diversity of the region: the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli which isn't open to the public and the family-run Farina Winery. We came to this region to see the Ripasso method of drying grapes, a special winemaking technique that adds depth and complexity to Valpolicella wines and one of the few regions in the world where this method is still practiced. Along the way, we tasted a range of exquisitely crafted Valpolicella wines while gaining deeper insight into the winemaking techniques and traditions that define this celebrated area. In the afternoon, we continued on to Bardolino, a charming town along the shores of Lake Garda, where we slowed down, took in the sweeping lake views, wandered historic streets, and embraced the relaxed rhythm of northern Italy.

Day 3: Prosecco & Veneto’s Hidden Gems

The day began in Bassano del Grappa, a charming riverside town where the iconic Palladian Bridge stretches gracefully over the Brenta River and the air carried the subtle aroma of Italy’s legendary grappa. At the historic Nardini Distillery, we sampled this treasured spirit and learned about its fascinating history, gaining a deeper appreciation for a tradition that has shaped the region for centuries.

From Bassano, we continued on to the sun-drenched Prosecco hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage Site defined by rolling vineyards and breathtaking views. Here, we visited Riva Granda, a boutique winery tucked into the hills, for an exclusive tasting of elegant, crisp Prosecco. A unique highlight at Riva Granda is their production of traditional-method Prosecco, a rare approach that’s both historic and deeply rooted in the traditions of this specific region. A leisurely vineyard lunch featuring local specialties followed, allowing us to slow down and savor both the wines and the setting. As the afternoon unfolded, we made our way to Asolo, the enchanting “Pearl of Veneto,” where the day ended on a beautifully relaxed note. Fun fact: Kirkland Prosecco is from Asolo.

Day 4: Lugana, Franciacorta & Transfer to Turin

We journeyed from the romantic city of Verona toward the elegant streets of Turin, enjoying two unforgettable wine experiences along the way. Our first stop was Otella Winery in Lugana, where the cooling breezes of Lake Garda help shape vibrant, mineral-driven white wines. Visiting Otella offers a truly unique experience, where wine tastings are paired with paintings and sculptures that harmoniously blend with the surrounding landscape.

From there, we continued on to the heart of Franciacorta, Italy’s premier sparkling wine region, where we visited Bersi Serlini for an exquisite wine-paired lunch. Here, the elegance and complexity of these world-class bubbles were on full display, making the experience unforgettable. The day concluded on a luxurious note as we arrived at the iconic Hotel Majestic in Turin, ready to unwind, reflect, and settle into the rhythm of this historic city.

Day 5: The Grand Barolo Wine Tour

We immersed ourselves in the world of Barolo, Italy’s legendary “King of Wines.” With an expert private guide leading the way, we visited two outstanding wineries, Giovanni Rosso and Ratti, savoring exquisite Nebbiolo wines that beautifully reflected the region’s unique terroir. Between tastings, we wandered through the charming hilltop villages of La Morra and Castiglione Falletto, taking in breathtaking vineyard views at every turn.

Along the way, we gained a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind Barolo, from the traditions of old-world winemaking to the innovations shaping its future. The day was one of indulgence, discovery, and unforgettable flavors, leaving us with lasting memories in the heart of Italy’s most revered wine region.

Day 6: Alba, Barbaresco & Truffle Festival

Our final full day took us to the enchanting land of Barbaresco, where Nebbiolo reveals its elegant, perfumed character. We began with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the renowned family-run winery Marchesi di Grésy, savoring Barbaresco at its finest and gaining insight into the passion and craftsmanship that go into each bottle.

Later, we journeyed to Alba, the world-famous heart of the International White Truffle Festival. Strolling through its medieval streets, we breathed in the intoxicating aroma of fresh truffles and indulged in decadent truffle-infused delicacies. We had a 5-star meal at the infamous Antiné. The experience culminated with a visit to the legendary truffle market, a must for food lovers seeking the region’s finest culinary treasures. It was a day of pure indulgence, rich flavors, and unforgettable discoveries, a perfect finale to our Italian wine adventure.

Our week in Northern Italy was nothing short of extraordinary, a journey through timeless landscapes, historic towns, and world-renowned wine regions. From the rolling vineyards of Valpolicella and the sparkling hills of Franciacorta, to the noble Nebbiolo of Barolo and Barbaresco, each day offered a perfect blend of discovery, indulgence, and sensory delight. Along the way, we explored charming villages, learned from passionate winemakers, and savored the flavors that make this region so legendary. This adventure was more than a tasting tour; it was an immersion into the culture, history, and artistry that define Northern Italy, leaving us with memories, friendships, and experiences to cherish for a lifetime.
